Custom Fencing Mask Painting

Every Mask Tells a Story

HEMA is full of unique personalities, fighting styles, and stories. Your mask can be a part of your story.

As a fellow member of our wonderful community, I love helping fencers bring their ideas to life-whether it’s your club’s logo, a tournament ready persona, or a completely original design. Every project is custom designed, painted, and created through a collaborative process so the finished mask feels uniquely yours.

Whether you already have a clear vision or just a rough idea, I’d love to help create something you’ll be excited to wear every time you step to your opponent.

The Process

From Idea to Final Project You’ll be Involved Every Step of the Way

1. Share Your Vision

Every great mask starts with an idea.

Whether you have a complete design in mind or just a theme, color palette, symbol, or inspiration, we’ll start by talking through what you want your mask to represent

Together we will explore ideas and find a direction that fits your style, your fencing style, and your budget

2. Design and Collaboration

Once we have a direction, I’ll create a digital concept for your mask using Krita

This is where the idea starts to become real. We’ll adjust the design together, refining colors, design options, and details until we have a version you’re excited to see brought to life.

No paint is applied until the design feels right. After approval the mask is shipped to me and a 50% deposit is collected.

3. Hand Cut Stencil Creation

Once the mask arrives, the digital artwork is transformed into a physical stencil.

Each stencil is prepared by hand specifically for your mask. The design is printed and then layered over a sheet of painters tape, and carefully cut to create the individual sections needed to build the final artwork.

Because every fencing mask has its own curves and contours, each stencil is carefully shaped and prepared to fit the unique surface it will be applied to.

4. Placement and Approval

Once the stencil is cut the mask is taped up and a base layer applied, after this layer dries the stencil is carefully positioned on your mask.

I will send photos of the placement so you can review the size, positioning and overall look before the final image is started.

This step is repeated for each layer of stencils needed for the mask, it also ensures that the final design matches your vision and that the artwork feels right on the mask itself.

5. Layered Painting & Detail Work

With the Stencil placed and approved the artwork begins to take shape.

Each mask is painted in layers, with additional stencil applications added as needed to build colors, shapes, layers and fine details. Some designs may require multiple painting stages to achieve the final look.

After the spray painting is complete, I finish the artwork by hand with brush details. This allows me to refine edges, clean up small areas, and add fine details that are difficult to achieve with the spray can alone.

The result is a crisp, custom design that is ready to become part of your fencing story.

6. Final Reveal & Return

After the final details are complete, your mask gets a final inspection and a chance to be photographed before heading back to you.

The artwork takes 2 days to cure before the mask is ready to be sent back to you, ready for practices, tournaments, and the stories that come with them.

Once Payment is complete, your finished mask can be picked up locally, or shipped back to you so you can start putting your own marks on it.

Crafted with Battle in Mind

These masks aren’t made to sit on a shelf- they’re made to be fenced in.

HEMA gear tells a story. Every scratch, mark, and worn edge comes from hours of training, competing, and coaching. Your painted mask is designed with that journey in mind

I create designs that work with the shape and structure of a fencing mask, keeping the artwork clear and recognizable even as your mask collects the marks that come from use.

Over time, your mask won’t just show the design you chose, it will show the fights, drills and memories that left their mark on it.
